"Student at Work"
Enjoy a good conversation while you learn new things in the atmosphere akin to extended family with a dedicated teacher. While Stephanie's B.S. in Accounting is a far cry from being a potter and multimedia art teacher that doesn't change the quality of teaching at her base studio in Browntown School on the Northern end of Wilmington. Starting at age thirteen having been surrounded through her life by a family of artists Stephanie launched into cross stitch designing. She then moved onwards to quilting, smocking, ceramics, porcelain doll-making, stained glass, glass bead making, and most importantly pottery. Many of her words involve combination of several unrelated media. Teaching at Cottage Crafts Studio on Highway 17 North as well as for Dreams of Wilmington, Eckerd Youth Alternative, and the City of Wilmington are just some of the different ways she reaches the public. Students ranging from ages 7-70 with diverse backgrounds enjoy learning ow to work in clay. Small class sizes allow her to give students special attention to their own unique interests and agendas. Handbuilding, sculpting, tile making, and wheelthrowing techniques are all taught in one class allowing the student to move freely between the styles. From decorative to functional, tea pots to casserole bowls, stemware to statues. Earthenware, castware, stoneware, raku, and porcelain clay are made available to you through the studio's in house stock. Crystalline as well as custom glazes are right on hand or just an order away. The old Browntown School on Highway 17 two miles north of Poplar Grove Plantation houses the gallery of her and her partners' work as well as a teaching studio. Learn to draw your creativity into a soothing experience at their next class.
