I just wanted to share this treasury of items made by members of The Cosmic Web. You can see a lovely array of different mediums expressed from a number of artists! This month's theme was "A Touch of Frost" so each item has some "frosty" element to it in color or symbol. *To visit the listing of the item simply click on the picture.* You can plainly see why I love this piece, I've always had a fascination with tree of life art and this one does not disappoint. It hold an elegant and simple beauty with an old world feel to it. I think the combination of hammered copper and two different types of beads really does the trick too!

About a month ago I got the suggestion from a fellow spiritual creative, Starlene Breiter of Rocks & Reiki Inc., to check out a group dedicated to the formation of a community of spiritually-based creatives The Etsy Cosmic Web.
While I don't sell on Etsy any longer the group isn't limited to Etsy sellers only. They have a group established on Facebook as well and hold events for challenges held group wide to produce theme inspired items each month. While you may scoff at the "for Dummies" (and "The Idiot's Guide to") books they really aren't all that bad. They make for a nice compendium of information that a beginning to whatever subject may not have. And for those who are intermediate and even experienced they still can offer some juicy tidbits to explore.
I really picked up this book on a whim. While I don't consider myself a master or even experienced with digital photography itself I have at the least a general working knowledge on the subject. At least insofar as it goes with the very basics of lighting and staging one's subject matter. The next phase of making my "spirit dream catchers" is the stringing of the webbing. I'd have to say this is my least favorite part because the fiber and I tend to get into disagreements in the beginning as I try not to warp the frames I've taken such care to make.
While many take the time at this point to string beads and sometimes attach things directly in the webbing that was not the case with this batch. The beads, fiber, and I also wouldn't come to an accord so I capitulated to what they wanted to do. But all in all I think they still look nice. :) Like what you've read? I've spoken about this challenge two other times when talking about stained glass. As it stands the snowflakes are as yet unfinished and I don't foresee them being done in time for today...Rather I am focusing on this thread and wire wrapped pendant instead.
Peruvian string art is something I have long loved and admired but didn't take the time to learn until later (mostly because I didn't know what it was called). After I learned about the basic technique and realized I had everything I needed to get started I knew I would start carrying it in my store sooner or later... |
