Capturing the Wind or My Gemini Darling...

Points for cuteness, not so much on the clarity...
I love photography.  It's one of the few art forms I like consistently and something that can convey such emotion with a single *click*...

I won't call myself the best photographer, I'm always learning and seeking to up my skills, but I have a good working knowledge and enough to freelance.  Except when it comes to children...
I set out last night to make a hat with ombre green.  One of the last posts I put up was discussing ombre and color so I had the skein set up to demonstrate what an ombre color was.

As the skein sat on my desk an idea began to form.  Besides the fact that ombres are in (apparently, as this is news to me) I just really love the varying shades of color.  We can say that's the artist in me though as I love monochromatic color schemes too and just even random pairings of color  based on their relation to the color wheel.

A neat version of the color wheel illustrating the three main types of color <3
When I first started this hat I thought to myself, flowers, blooming, Spring...but my Muse had other plans.  I got towards the end of the last green, and it was time to change colors because I didn't have enough to finish it and I wanted all of the rows an even solid color.  Then suddenly I remembered a bit of brown I had leftover from an adorable photo prop I made for Miss Kristie of Aquarian Elegance's newest bundle of joy.

Finished - I loved it.  It didn't happen the way I had planned though.  I wanted some surface embellishments, I'd been thinking flower, now I was thinking tree - I had to keep with the "Spirit of Spring" theme but I don't force creation.  I like to let it naturally unfold.  Branches maybe?  It made sense but the execution wasn't flowing at all...so what else?

It hit me...how could I overlook something so simple and that at least I know I love so much?  Leaves.  I've seen plenty of renderings of leaves, but I'd yet to make any.  I didn't need Autumn in my house in the form of crocheted leaves all over the place, not to mention the Mister already makes a face at my love of yarn...but this was too cute an idea to at least not try...

A friend made the comment "if Peter Pan had a hat this would be it" I wholeheartedly agree.  While the hat is really gender non-specific I had my wee monstie running about in it so I could capture pictures...or try to.  And true to the energy of the lost boy Peter Pan he was flitting about everywhere.  I'm sure I looked a sight to my neighbors in pjs with crazy hair running around with no shoes after my toddler.  In fact I almost wish I'd captured the image of myself though that might scare y'all.

So while it was fun to let him play about outside and it was certainly nice I dare say I won't be attempting to get much deeper into photographing children.  While I do my photography & design work on the side the sheer frustration of taking nearly 50 photos to only use 5 because he wouldn't be still was a bit harrowing.  But he's a Gemini and true to his Sun sign, capturing him is like harnessing the wind...
