Marella's Bio:

I hand paint banks for kids, using non-toxic and eco-friendly materials.   Every bank I create has a story to it, and comes with a special introductory letter.  I hope my banks help kids learn about counting and understanding how money works!
1.  How long have you been painting?
I began painting as a stress reliever during college, and fell in love with it.  As I kept working on developing my craft, I decided to try and sell some of it - and Just for Littles was born!

2.  What inspires you most?

I love the feeling I get when a child falls in love with one of my banks.  Their smiles warm my heart!  From a design aspect, I get a lot of inspiration from life around me - flowers, jewelry, even stories can light a creative spark.

3.  What are your favorite supplies?

Glitter paint!  I have glitter paint in just about every color.  I also love craft fur - there's something fun about a piggie bank with hair!

4.  Do you have a favorite tool?

I absolutely cannot live without my lucky pencil.  I'm convinced I draw better with that one pencil than any other in my house.  (And I've even yelled at my boyfriend for using it!)

5.  What is your work space like?

Real estate in New York is a premium, so right now I only have a little table to work on and a rolling cart for my paints and supplies.  Its always in a state of organized mess, but I know where everything is!

6.  When do you find the most time to work?

I usually work in the evening and night times best.  For some reason, my creative juices don't start flowing until the sun goes down.

7.  How does your work fit into the rest of your life?

Usually everything melds together pretty well.  Sometimes, it can be difficult to find a balance.  As I said above, I prefer to work at night - right when friends and family want to hang out.  In those situations I have to find a compromise that works for me, my shop, and my friends & family.

8.  How often per week do you get to work?

I typically work 6 days a week, though I have been known to play hooky both days of the weekend to hang out with my boyfriend.

9.  Do you sell your work?

Yes I do! I have an online shop on Storenvy and try to fit in as many craft fairs as my schedule allows.  The nice thing about living in Brooklyn is I can set up a table of products in front of my house for an impromptu show.  There's so much foot traffic on a normal Saturday I usually make a few sales and get to know my neighbors!

10.  What social networks are you a part of?
Beyond my Storenvy shop, you can find the Littles on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, and Rebelmouse, among others.

11. What is your favorite part?

I love watching my ideas turn into reality, and then having that reality make people smile.

12. How did you get into painting?

I started really getting into painting in college as a stress reliever.  It was nice to just sit back and paint and not worry about papers and tests for a while.

13. Who is your favorite deceased artist?

Definitely Bob Ross!  I remember watching him paint as a child.  He always did his own thing no matter what others said, and he was always so happy!

14. Who is your favorite living artist?

I am always drawn to artists who infuse colors and happiness into their work.
