I offer hand knit items, mostly wearables like hats and scarves. Hand knit for me means no looms or machines, only needles. Hats, scarves, and home goods are my focus but I've been known to make some plushies, bags, other random things that get commissioned. I've also started making recycled paper jewelry.
Around 2009, so about four years now I've been knitting. Only a few months with the recycled beads.
2. What inspires you most?
Often the yarn itself - I'll see a color that I love and just have to turn it into something. The color and sometimes even the name of it will inspire an image of a lace scarf of fun slouchy beanie. Also my customers - when they commission something, I adore figuring out what I can make that satisfies their needs and is reasonable for my skill level.
3. What are your favorite supplies?
Yarn wise I adore cotton, its so soft, though it does shed a bit. Wool is quite nice as well. As for my needles - wood and bamboo are preferred, they just feel better.
4. Do you have a favorite tool?
I do have one pair of needles that I use whenever I can, made of rosewood with really fancy ends, they sort of look like wands.
5. What is your work space like?
I don't really have an assigned work space - its often in front of the computer, watching netflix while I work on something.
6. When do you find the most time to work?
During school it would be between classes, at a meeting, or at night. For now, since I've graduated and don't have a day job, its pretty much whenever. When I do have a day job, it'll be when at night or on weekends, depending on when my shift is.
7. How does your work fit into the rest of your life?
It works fine, and knitting is mostly quire portable so if I'm going to someones house to hang out or something I can sit there and knit while being social.
8. How often a week do you get to work?
Currently probably only a couple of hours, sometimes I get distracted with the job hunt, or some other event that are going on, or video games. :/ Specially since I have no major projects that is imperative to do - when I have commission I would be working a lot more.
9. Do you sell your work? Directly? Indirectly?
Yep, directly.
10. Do you have a business (on or offline)? Consign?
On storenvy, online, yes. Some of it is OOAK some have color choice.
11. Do you have a website? Blog? Facebook profile or fan page? Myspace? Twitter? Pinterest?
Website, facebook and twitter are the main ones I use. I do have a pinterest but its more for personal use than work.
12. Where do you feel your work fits in your market?
Its a bit of a mix really. I am indie, I am the only person running everything so its very low in volume. Some of it is OOAK partly because of yarn colors being discontinued. But most of it can be duplicated, with custom colors, so its made to order.
13. What is your favorite part?
Shopping for yarn - seeing all the colors and feeling the material. Watching a project grow, seeing/hearing the customer be happy with my work.
14. How did you get into knitting?
I had decided I wanted to make a Tom Baker/Doctor Who scarf for my dad as a present, I practiced for a while and bought bunch of cheap yarn, found the color guideline on the internet and got to work.
15. Favorite deceased artist? Why?
Van-gogh -specially "Starry Night" ...just the use of colors and that particular style I think he did really well and I'm always sort of moved and happy when I see one of his pieces.
16. Favorite live artist? Why?
Not sure I have one - modern visual artist I don't know enough about. And for music and such - I am too eclectic in my tastes I can't really pick one.
