Fleur de Lis Cross - My third stained glass piece...
I love custom orders, I truly do.  Day in and day out I have things I can work on, a queue miles long and growing every day (call me ambitious).  But this is stuff I want to do.  Most of the time I have an idea what it will look like and that vision is pretty dead on.

With a custom order, it's a surprise every time.  While I will sit with you and hash out a pretty good idea of  what it'll look like I'm still never really sure until the end.
For me that's the lifeblood of my work, that "ah ha" as I step back and take a gander at my handiwork.  Now I've talked to fellow artists and crafters here and there.  I've gotten some agreement to the fun side of custom orders.  But then some of them have commented on how they hate custom work, how exhausting they are, and how they never wanted to do it again.

So comes the other side of the coin.

Working one on one to pull something out of thin air can be a real pain in the ass.  Sometimes what sounds so good in your head just doesn't come through.  It can be downright frustrating when you try to explain the finer mechanics of your craft to someone who may not really understand even how you do it.

Call me stubborn, but I still love it and that interaction I get with you to bring your idea into physical form gets me giddy as a schoolgirl every time.

So what about you - tell me in the comments below:  Are you fond of custom orders?  Have you ever put in an order with a handmade artist?  What is your favorite part?
