WUW?: Progress in the Works

Pottery by Stephanie Wheeler of Cottage Crafts, incidentally also my yarn bowl...
It seems I had a great idea when I started these weekly posts that completely slipped my mind...

So here's to having some clarity and remembrance about what I wanted (in part) out of these weekly posts!
First off, I have what I like to call "artist's brain" and I am constantly forgetting things.  Although at this point I could say it's much more "artrepreneur's brain" because the sheer task amount that I have for my work running it nearly solo is pretty hefty.  But then again, that's why we have assistants and teams and such so really I have no excuse...

So the whole point of this digression was for me to remind myself and share with you what else I wanted to share with you each week...enter the WIP!!! (cue dramatic noises)...

Being the prolific maker I am, I've usually got a number of projects hanging about my space in various states of "not nearly done enough".  Don't get me wrong, I'm really not a dabbler - I regularly finish things in batches - but I do like to keep things interesting which means I have to have variety otherwise I get mentally bored (not to mention many things I do take either excessive amounts of concentration or are very repetitive), so a well placed break or change of pace is good.

While blogging this week I found myself waiting entirely too long for some pictures to load so as the page did its thing and my computer slowly complied I started this little number...the colors sort of remind me of a stormy ocean and I've got the repetition of six going on...so I'm thinking of naming this after Yemaya, the Orisha associated with motherhood and also some bodies of water.
Its a bit of broomstick lace, a technique I learned some time ago but hadn't quite dove into yet (I do love lace though...)  And after this stint of lacemaking you can look for some tutorials about it (photo & video) on the blog soon = yay!

But not to be boring by any means I came across three partial skeins of one of my favorite yarns, Malabrigo Merino Worsted.  Originally bought for other projects once they served their initial purpose the leftovers went to live on my yarn shelf until I was inspired to work with them again.  In pulling them out and setting them aside I saw a flash of Spring-y inspiration and knew I had to make something soon with them altogether...

And that's how it starts...just two projects, a little crochet, a little knitting and then soon I'm seeing colors and designs pop out everywhere.  Case in point, my art table is stacked full (above & below) of projects in various stages.  From inception of idea to almost, nearly sort of mostly done, lol.

Sooner or later my project queue grows monstrous as it is now and then it's just a bit of a mad dash to get things to a state of done.  But with me sharing I have the hopes that that will inspired a wee bit more focus - after all, I don't want to leave you hanging or show the same lack of progress on the same things week after week!

In the comments below share with me...
  • Do you have a huge project queue?
  • Do you like to start one project and finish it before you start or consider others?

The broomstick lace piece's colors make me think of rain and mist at sunrise!

Christine thank you so much for your comment! I hadn't thought of that when I was putting the colors together but you're quite right! Lately mulling over it really reminds me of a cloudy day so I think I'm going to name it "Sombre Skies" and dedicate it to a rain/healing/mother goddess <3
