You'll have to pardon me for not having a ready reference to the originator - if you are them or know who they are let me know so I can properly credit them!
Really and truly this is a set of psychological triggers in action. As humans we are not only social creatures, we are also creatures of habit. Habits make us feel safe and secure. Even if they're bad habits.
The relationship comes down to the connection between a set of actions (or ritual) and the feelings we associate with it. Case in point:
Your alarm goes off, it jolts you rather unceremoniously awake and you drag yourself out of bed (or conversely you leap out of bed like someone lit a fire under your ass). You begin the routine set of actions you do every morning. Stop by the bathroom, grab your clothes, nosh on something, head out the door to wherever...
It's a fair simple set of actions, but they are performed the same way, generally in the same order every day. It's what you do to get ready for the day and should you skimp on your routine you'll often find yourself not feeling all that ready - a feeling that may persist with you throughout the day even (especially if you're like me).
So take a moment to appreciate your daily routines and their meaning.
In the comments below share with me: What do they mean to you and what do they allow you to do? Give a little silent thanks to the Universe.
